THE REVIVAL OF MANDELA'S AFRICA: THE REBELLION AGAINST AFRICAN COLONIZATION.

Africa had been a country blessed with precious minerals, but its economy had also been on the brink. During the 16th century, expeditions from Great Britain went to Africa, and by the 19th century, Africa became the colony of Great Britain. As racism was deep-rooted in Africa, so racist imperialism began in Africa. While the industrial revolution was at its peak in Europe, Africa served as a large-scale exporter of raw materials, which made child labor and worker discrimination common in Africa. Africans were economically looted by various mutraveled to Africa, and by the 19th century, Africa had become a British colonylti-national companies till the world wars. Along with imperialist oppression, Africa also served as a host to the U.S military, as locals were forced to join the U.S. Army with negligible wages. The major glimpses of slavery during World War 1 are explicit evidence of how Africans were exploited.

The history of anti-colonial movements in Africa stretches back to the 18th century. A prominent battle in 1896, named "Battle of Adwa," was fought between Ethiopia and Italy, which was the first time that Africans won a battle against their counterpart. Likewise, in 1967, the Nigerian Civil War was also a significant uprising against Western colonists. After independence from Great Britain in 1960, it was the initial phase of war against the dictator, Colonel Emeka Ojwuku. The dictatorship was an outcome of the factionalism after independence. Emeka Ojwuku was from the Igbo faction and came to power in 1967 by use of suppression. So, after the Nigerian civil war, power went to General Philip, but it is a fact that history always repeats itself as a tragedy. Exploitation and discriminatory imperialism remained the same in Africa. So, again in 1991, the Somali Civil War was at its height against dictator Said Barse. An article about uprisings in Africa published in Britannica on 13 June, 2025, also illustrated this game of thrones. Norwich University, while discussing the History of Battles in Africa, stated that Africa had been a land of extreme imperial bloodshed. The last time imperial sentiments grew in 2016 but however when you analyze African history, Nelson Mandela is worth studying and researching.

A person who was firm against racism in Africa, who spend his whole life for the independence of nation and who spend 27 years in prison because of anti-colonial resistance, Nelson Mandela, was the Abdul Ghaffar Khan of Africa. He was the beholder of non-violent struggle  in Africa.Born in 18th july, 1918, Mandela faced discrimination in childhood and teenage. At the age of ten, he left home and had to face many racist elements. After his graduation, he built the first black law firm in Africa. He faced Rivonia trials in 1952 and what conditions were waiting for him are clearly narrated in his autobiography, “Long walk to Freedom”.his contribution of instilling non-violence in Africans majorly helped them to prosper in their struggle for independence.national geographic has recently published an article about Nelson Mandela on 18th July, 2025, in which it stated that if non-violence would not have been instilled in Africans struggle, situation would have worsened. The greatest practical lesson of mandela for Africans was when he was the president of Africa, he called of the armed struggle when the colonizers asked for it.European Imperialism was the main target of Mandela  and it is also responsible for the current situation in Africa. So Western Imperialism  should be addressed while articulating the apartheid in Africa.

Colonialism began to take root in Africa in the 17th century, but the situation worsened after the world wars. After World War II, the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. emerged as the world's superpowers, marking the beginning of the Cold War. While the USSR had much spending on the military, the U.S made Africa an anchor state. While neo-imperialism was at its peak in Africa, raw materials and minerals were exported from there. Racism and social apartheid became blatant while the demand for raw materials and minerals increased. Afterward, the Somali-Civil War brought wealth inequality and extreme poverty in Africa. An article published in People’s World about US imperialism on 29th September, 2021, exposed the economic exploitation of the US as it elucidates that Congo is the biggest exporter of silicon used in mobile phones and other electronic devices. The irony is that Congo only gets 0.3% of the total production, which vanishes due to corruption. Contemporarily, Africa is under hot water, which is the gift of US capitalist interests.

Currently, Africa is in flames. In different sections of Africa, woes are different. Kenya has different protests against the reversal of democracy. The subjugation in Kenya is leading to Civil war. The struggle of locals is against the dictator William Ruto. Ruto has been the Idi Amin of Kenya, as people are charged with terrorist sentiments. Additionally, the price hike in Angola is at its peak as inflation is increasing continuously. An article named” Kenya’s protests against failed democracy”  published by Al Jazeera on 28th July, 2025, stated that the uprisings are not only observed in Angola or Kenya but also in other African countries such as Congo or Somalia, which have become sites of dispute. Water crises in Congo are common, and the residents there are suffering due to water scarcity. In addition, Congo has faced three decades of conflict after the Rwandan genocide of Rwandans. An article published in Britannica titled” civil war in Somalia” on 29th July, 2025, unravelled that Al-Shabbah, the militant group associated with Al-Qaeda, is fighting against the government under the slogan of washing banditry. However, they are only spreading terrorism. So, practical solutions should be addressed to guard Africa from losing hundreds of people.

Although conditions are very grave in Africa, some remedies to tackle them are necessary with a practical approach. Respect for human rights and plucking out racist elements is the sole step for making Africa prosper. Similarly, freedom of opinion and judicial equality should be incorporated in the governance of Africa. While on the way to making Africa a peaceful country, a peace settlement in the cultural and tribal feuds is more than just a solution, but the main key to achieving this objective. A clear initiative of granting full rights to minorities should be taken. Being a country with having severe and notorious governance structure, a clear and transparent governance structure of elections should be put into practice. Power to vote should be granted to all to elect the government by the people, which will be stern to work only for the betterment of the people. So, these remedies should be brought in a practical approach.

In conclusion, Africans are not aliens but humans like us. They are not born to be slaughtered and killed, but they should be supported in having a better lifestyle. As Africa is enriched with minerals, we can have a free trade with them. We should also not forget that oppressors don't keep in mind the limitations of territories or nations, but coerce all. So, being true humans, we should confront and stand up against subjugation anywhere, irrespective of any intrigues. Having a one-liner statement about the domination in Africa, it should have the true democratic change to make Africa a paradise, not a pandemonium.
